Treasure Site??
January 09, 2000 at 08:55:37

I was walking a ridge line with my Gemini-3 when it sounded off. Periodically this occurs, but after walking the area that it sounds off on, and fiddling with the controls, you can eventually decide whether it is a false signal or not.

In this case it didn't happen. The area that it sounded off on was about four feet square. I adjusted the controls, criss-crossed it, and did everything I could think of to dis-prove it was a real hit. I finally came to the conclusion it was.

Now you have to understand the places I get into are not the easiest to get to. It was several weeks before I came back with a friend to dig this location. I also brought back the Gemini-3. We dug down about five feet for the day, periodically testing to see if we got false signals or not, or if what we were were digging up was hot.

By the end of the day, we had a pile of dirt that didn't make the detector go off, but a five foot hole that did.

The soil in this hole looks like white caliche or a powdery limestone. There is no organic matieral in it, nor were there any large stones (well, maybe a couple). There are no Spanish signs within fifty yards, but there are signs leading up to this site and on up the mountain.

The reason I was out in this area is that I was using a doused map that indicated on one of these ridges was a treasure buried at the eight foot level.

Not many of you have dug a hole at the 7,000 foot level, but this ole dog gets tired after a while, and you sit there wondering how crazy you may be.

Before I head back out there one of these days, I thought I would see if the forum had some thoughts on what else this might be.
