I hate to disagree with you Joe but piracy lasted over 300 years (since the 1400's) and is still going on in places like the South China Sea and the Bahamas. I do agree that the local library is the first place to search along with the local university (for no bullcrap truth) and the Library of Congress, N.Y. Times microfilm records (they go back to 1830), local historic society records, and local fishermans stories.

Also, pirate treasure HAS been found by treasure hunters; Barry Clifford's find of the pirate ship Whydah, Capt. Kidd's ship found off Mauretania, F.L. Coffman's find of the Mysterioso in Florida, and I know of several land hunters that found buried treasure chests.
