MERIDA: Passenger Freighter

July 14, 2001 at 06:54:36

Has anyone made any recent attempts to dive on the Merida that sank May 11, 1911 with a reported 5.5 million in coins, jewelry and bullion aboard? It's in 150 feet of water, deep for SCUBA but not for submersibles. I read a book about one Treasure Diver who dove it with hard helmet diving unsure of his recoveries. Latitude: 36 degrees, 23', 30"N Longitude: 74 degrees, 22' 00"W that's offshore of Chesapeake Bay. Always wondered if any more attempts have been made.

Harry
