Let me introduce myself, I was with SOSCO in 1964, when we salvaged the Lucayan silver wreck in the Bahamas. I owned a dive shop in Miami in the mid-sixties, and was a partner in the Dos Mundos Salvage Company that succssfully salvaged the Victorioso in the Florida keys. According to Dr. Jose Pena, I was the first to contact the Spanish archives concerning the fleet that contained the Atocha. I have been wreck diving in the Florida/Caribbean basin for over 35 years. I am closely associated with Jack Haskins, who is the most knowledgable archivist for shipwrecks in the world. My long time partner is Cal Johnson, who spent over 20 years in Columbia archiving, and cataloguing shipwrecks in Central and South America.
We have recently been contacted by one Pawel Tomas Nowak, who claims to be an archivist from Europe with shipwreck information. Following several email contacts, this individual professed to have Spanish documents pertaining to shipwrecks that we were interested in. He even provided some authentic looking documents with the shipwreck names. However, when we tried to get positive proof, there was none forthcoming. This Nowak fellow asks for U.S. dollars for his information, but when pressed for positive proof of his claims, cannot produce. Beware of more of these types of scams that might come out of Europe.
