Scott, I think you'll find it worse after cleaning, once in a while electrolysis will make it look a whole lot better, but on the one you descrbe it'll probably look worse. I will try to post a pic of a 1798 bust cent before and after electrolysis tonight. I think olive oil protects coins but havent had much success in having it clean them after they've been exposed to the air for a while. I think the secret is that you should carry a small vial of it and put the old coppers in it right after digging. once that crust/dirt sets in from drying out it doesnt want to come off very easy.........Jim
