The use of a swastika (pronounced SVa-STi-Kuh) as good luck came from European history and has its root in the Roman Empire. The Romans carried the symbol with them and it originally was considered a "holy" good luck charm. It stems from Roman paganist pantheon. It often appeared in Roman works as a astronomical symbol.

People of western Europe adopted the symbol, not with paganist religious overtones, but superstition.
