Hi Barb,

Welcome aboard! What Mickey says is true. One thing you need to be is patient. Have fun with the detector. I mean enjoy the day. Get up early in the morning before the sun rises and detect. Its great to watch that sun rise or set whatever the case might be. I also own a Garrett Freedom Ace(one of the cheaper brands), and let me say that in the 2 years I've been detecting its been great. Im about to reach that 3,000 coin mark, have 38 rings so far this year, plus numerous other jewerly. Just stick with it you will notice that your detector has different beeps(tones) for different items. Also use headphones. Keep an eye out for where people gather and either at night or in the morning try the detector in that spot. Carnivals and High schools are popular as well as parks. In the winter try and do research on your area for historical places to detect for the next year. I hope this helps. Any questions, just hollar!
