old house site yields a broach

January 26, 1999 at 19:53:40

Hoi ya'll !

well as I usually do when I have time, I wander out into a field near work and look for change or whatever. There are a few signs of old house sites so this week I relic hunt. Today I dug the typical chains, barrel parts and squished oil lamps, but finally a neat item. The ole' QII rang out loud and said "CW belt buckle"...I didn't believe it of course. I dug over a foot to find a woman's broach intact. It was stamped brass, round and likely was gilt in it's day. The image on it appeared to be similar to a Gibson Girl with a bird on her shoulder. If this is the case it's 1890-1900. The site yeilds stuff 1840-1909.

lotsa fun!
