Ken, from your description your coin is a 1/4 pence or 1/2 pence of George III, who ruled Britain and her posessions from 1760 to 1820. The seated figure on the reverse is Britannia, the personification of Britain. Actually, it is a counterfeit coin, since it is dated 1777.
