Richard,

I have some of my Grandfathers WW1 gear & uniform & recall these buttons being used on them. Also, if your in So. Ohio, where I also hunt when on vacation visiting in-laws, across River in Ft. Thomas, Ky. was a Span Am. War Hospital & military site. I agree w/ former response that they may have also saw use in the Span Am War.
