A few days ago I cut down a medium sized tree in my front yard. Today I hauled out the stump using my car and a heavy chain, after digging a 4 ft. wide hole around it and cutting the roots with a small chain saw. I ended up with a hole about 20-24 in. deep and decided I should make a pass with my detector before filling it in. I used my CZ6 with a 4" coil and got a good signal just below where I had cut loose a large root. About 2" down in the loose dirt and sawdust out came a nice (about VF20) 1872H Canadian Quarter. Unfortunately there was a very small nick on one edge where it looks like I clipped it with the chain saw . It must have been lying just under or beside the root, a good 12 or more inches below the surface. Just goes to show that you don't always have to drive a long way from home to make a good find. Don.
