That "gilt" button is quite old. I've never seen them found in any stratas that post date the 1860's. Whenever we find them here in CA, we know we're in a place that could give up coins like early seated coins & reales. If your site has no/little modern influence (no foil etc....) I'd go low disc. and work every conductive signal out of there. Good luck!
