Help with an odd find

January 19, 1999 at 21:01:57

Greetings....

I hunted an area outisde of Chicago about a week before the ground froze and recovered an odd "timepiece". I thought it was a toy watch but on cleanup it turned out to be a pocket sundial in surprisingly good condition. The item is patterned after a pocket watch and marked "Robbins Co" on the loop. The thing is 1-1/2 inches in dia. The "indicator" pulls up at adjustable angles 30 to 60 degrees, and where the second indicator on a pocket watch would be, this had a compass (corroded) There is a thunderbird figure pressed in the back. Any info as to age, who "Robbins Co" was or is... would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....

Tim
