1818 25cent piece

I've had a pretty lousy month of August except for a few Indian Heads particularly a nice 1864 in excellant shape (not an "L" unfortunately).
I stopped off at an 1874 farm house in the middle of an area that has undergone a tremendous amount of growth (due to the slime and scum known as Developers and their unbridled greed and lack of respect for anything not covered by blacktop or concrete- Editorial Comment).
I checked out the yard and found one IH and nothing else. The house is surrounded by a fence and outside the fence to the left of the house is a scrub brush area about 15 feet wide, then beyond that what appears to be a common grass covered area, probably owned by the housing development located to the rear of the house. Well, I checked the scrub area and found some tin cans and scrap metal. I walked out onto the common area to the rear of the patch to see what was behind it and started back to my car. With my XLT to the ground as I walked the perimeter I found a 1988 penny then took a few more steps, about to enter the scrub again when I got a loud "25cent" indication. In my frustration, as I said it's been a dry spell, I put spade to soil a little to quickly fully expecting a clad, turned it over and saw a sweet sliver of silver poking up through the ground. At first I thought it was play money, but on closer inspection, I had me an 1818 25 cent piece in outstanding condition, except for the small knick I put in the edge and a little too much of a smile somebody else inflicted on Lady Liberty a number of years ago. The detail on both sides is just outstanding, a little tarnish on Lady Liberty, but the back side is flawless. It is very light, but what a beauty. This is what makes all those hours worth while.
Now, I am thinking I should check out the common area. I assumed they must have plowed it over when they built the development, but maybe they just smoothed it over and put grass on it. The area is very old, I had hunted a house in the area that went back to early 1700. I will report on my efforts, successful efforts only. Wish me luck.
