Why headphones?
April 09, 2000 at 07:51:13

Everything I read lately says the same thing "USE HEADPHONES". With so many experienced people saying it, there must be something there. They are saying their good for hearing the deep coins. My question is probably going to sound silly to most of you. What exactly am I listening for when searching for these old deep coins with headphones? Is it just a faint signal or is it a different sounding signal? Can you hear these signals without headphones or are they that elusive to the unaided ear?

I am not using a detector with a meter and am embarassed to say that after almost two years of searching 3-4 days a month, I have yet to feel comfortable with the tones on my detector. Everytime I think I'm starting to understand it, I start digging signals that through everything out the window!

Sorry for rambling on. If someone could please shed some light on headphones, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. Chris B. (NJ)
