Found some Indian head cents like that too. They were dropped mosts likely the year that they were made and the area that you hunted must not have been fertilized with a turf builder. Fertilizer gives the copper coins some heavy, green, crusty oxidation. You're lucky. About every other copper coin is damaged that way, from my experience. By the way, dug 15 Indian Head Cents so far this year. Best year for me detecting in a long, long, time.
