Dan, i have a button exactly like you described that i found in St.Matthews,SC at what was said to have been a Tax collection station for the King of England. I don't know how true that is though. But from the same site i found a button with the royal coat of arms in the middle and i guess it's lions on either side of it. I don't know anything else about it though. That's three different places i know of that this button has been found. If you find out anything on it please let me know. I am very interested now!!
