Kokoweef sure sounds interesting, I know. There is still the exploration group centered in Las Vegas. I am not sure if there are still people up there full time. If so, they usually give tours.
I have a brochure when it was a commercial cave-I think only for a year or two in the late 30s until the War. The NSS did a detailed survey in 47 I think.
Earl Dorr gave his deposition here in Pasadena and you can still visit the site of his bungalow. The limestone peak in on a low angle thrust fault and, at some depth, may intersect less permeable igneous bedrock--may well be underground water somewhere down there.
Now, however, there have been some new books regarding early settlers in the East Mojave, including the Dorr family. The only comment on Earl was that he was prone to tall tales and something of a black sheep to the family. Everyone should check this out before getting overly excited. It is still a great research project, though.
