Bent tree treasure symbol?

Howdy, everyone. I was walking in the woods the other day and found an odd-shaped tree. The tree grows straight out of the ground, like a normal tree, but about two feet off the ground it takes a ninety degree bend, parallel to the ground, grows about another 18" and then resumes its original path to the sky. There are no obstructions on or around the tree, no old fence line or anything like that. The tree is about 8-10" around and it is a pine tree. We live along the MO river banks and some of the pines in these bluffs live to be several hundred years old while remaining very small - no way to age this tree. I have heard that some of these trees are "water" trees, that those in the past forced them to grow this way to point to sources of water, but this particular tree points up a smallish ravine. Anyone ever hear of these sorts of trees pointing the way to treasure, and if so, any way to interpret distances out of the tree? Too much snow here to do any digging, but wait 'til spring. . .
