Jake; You'll love this one too. An early investor hired two men from Egypt that explored burial tombs for a living. They would be lowered into these little places to see if there was anything of value. Fearless? They were lowered into a large cavern in the Kokoweef area and imediately demanded to be brought back out. They said "We don't want any money, just send us home". They were terified. They said they saw hugh beasts down there with gleaming white teeth and could devouer a man in one bite. Sound far fetched? Not really. Think about it. These men are used to being lowered into "living quarters" underground. They had never seen a stalagtite or stalagmite before. In the dim light of a large cavern the mind can play some really mean tricks on you, right? What they probably saw were natural formations off in the distance and really panicked. They could not be convinced to re-enter the caverns. The next try failed when the cage used to lower the explorer got stuck for several hours nad no one wanted to try a third time. Kin Sabi is a rather short tunnel, not too deep and does not penetrate to far. The only odd creatures I know of have been natural such as big (not giant) bugs and snakes. Kin Sabi could be opened at the bottom but there is no air coming from around the rocks so there is little interest in further exploration, at least at this time. Without a natural air flow, you run into a lot of expense with ventilation. Several years ago a couple of Air Line Pilots set off a couple of cases of dynamite in Chrystal Cave on a Sat. and went back on Sunday to see if they opened anything up. You porbably guessed it. They died. Carbonmonoxide was waiting for them. There are thousands of feet of intersecting tunnels on the Chrystal Cave side now. Admission is very restricted but the air is nice. Earl was not quite the story teller the people selling stories made him out to be. But I belive almost all old prospectors love to talk. I can't keep my mouth shut as you know by now. There are things that Earl stated that evidence has since been found to verify. Unfortunately, the final proof has not yet been uncovered, that of course being the cavern itself. I believe it is there, but I have believed it for over 10 years and thought several times we would find it. Steve C
