After about 2 hours of working my way accross the canyon and up the other side. Shure enough there it was, an opening under a slight overhang and deep. I moved around the opening cautiosly to have a better look and be able to drop a small line with a rock on it
to check the depth. After measuring the line I came up with about 67 feet, that fit, the opening is about 40' across and about 60' long, that fit. Using a mirror to reflect light into the shaft was almost unsucessfull but did allow a little glimps of the bottom of the shaft, there is an opening to one side. I was unable to venture down into the shaft because of coming thunder storms, (something you don't want to be trapped behind around here cause you may be trapped for a while), and
the lack of proper climbing gear to make it safe. The shaft is not a cave, there is ample evidence that it was worked as a mine, or at least worked with tools, marks can be seen around the entrance portion. While working my way back to my truck I was forced to pull up short and wait out a couple of rain showers. I took refuge under an overhang and just parked for a while thinking about what I had seen. As I was setting
there I noticed a tricle of water comming over the edge of the rock and while looking at it noticed something that made me take some very serious notice. Off to one side of the oppening I noticed figures in the rock face. One of them a mounk looking figure with some crosses near it, and the otheres a mule or horse type figure with roman numerals near it. Could the drawings be related to what I had already seen?? Or are they to something yet to be found? I will endever to find out.
This has gotten to be a great adventure, could the marking be associated with what i found or posibly something different? I intend to find out. I am working on getting equipment together to go back and Just see what I have found. The funny thing is that it is not at all anywhere near where I had been looking for years, I found it on a hunch, how about that.
