Perhaps I can clear the air regarding the Capitana and what has been said by C. Torres, P. Smith and L.Schadler. The Capitana was discovered and salvaged by a team of members consisting of Moro, McClung, myself and others. My vessel, the R/V Explorer, was the primary ship used in the recovery process. Mr. McClung was in charge of salvage operations. The wreck was "certified" as that of the "Capitana" by Mr. de Bry and other Ecuadoran authorites. All recovery was monitored and supervised by the Ecuadoran Navy who had personel onboard my vessel at all times. Treasure brought onboard the Explorer was immediately given over to the Ecuadoran authorites. Video exists of these operations. The treasure was transported to the Central Bank of Ecuador where it currently awaits divison and distribution. Many have looked for the Capitana; we were lucky enough to have found her. Competitors in the area risked investment capital and lost; perhaps Mr. Torres is one of them and just expressing "sour grapes".
