For the object he is looking for I would be surprised if an EM-83 could detect something that small. Large veins and deposits or very large caches, sure. GPR is not a panacea. In certain types of soil conditions your Garrett with 14" coil might even go deeper, especially for someone using the equipment without lots of experience. We like to equate high cost with high tech with definite results. However, the real key is appropriate technology and sometimes that is not known until the hunt is afoot. Steve R
