The Magnetometer will only detect ferrous metals, iron, steel, etc. It WILL NOT detect the gold. I can't gaurantee the Relic Hawk will go 4 feet on a jar of coins. If it is a quart jar or bigger and is laying on it's side in the right type of soil you could have a very good chance. If the jar is smaller than a quart and is standing on end then your chances will deminish greatly!
