I researched and found a story here locally. I heard a rumor that during the civil war the local bank took all there money ($50,000) and dropped it in a well. There it sat for four years. I talked to the Family owned bank's oldest surviving member and he said they recovered all but 1 coin. Does anyone believe that they could have been able to salvage $50,000 in gold coins in cloth bags under water in a well for 4 years. Wouldn't the bags have fallen apart?
The funny part is the land owner didn't even know this was in his well. The gentleman even gave me the location of the well.
after doing a little research how about a conspiracy......At the time of this deposit the president of the bank was a prominent local figure who they promote as having Jefferson Davis stay at his house. Was Jefferson Davis a KGC member? I wonder if they really salvaged all the money? The local guys house is one of the biggest around? Ha...ha...ha.
