triangles on trees...

well guys i have this problem that's been a trouble to me for the past month.I found 2 trees with 1 triangle on each one.the first tree has a plain triangle with the top facing downwards and the other tree has a triangle with the top facing upwards and this one has circuled the downright edge with an x on the edge as well.What could it be the meaning of those symbols.Please give me
an answer ASAP!!!!
