I'm back home now from my Thanksgiving week trip to Michigan, and I wanted to follow-up to Kimsdad's post about neckerchief slides, and his question about "how many boy scout slides have you found?".
I enjoy detecting campgrounds, especially ones that have been used by boy scouts over the years.
Prior to 2008 I had one slide in my finds box. This year I started hitting campgrounds pretty hard, and here are the neckerchief slides I've found - I think my one-day record was 15 slides...
very awesome! I should probably start hunting campsites instead of parks and see how many i would get. Great idea!
Anyone can make life interesting you just have to go out there and do things instead of sitting on your butt doing nothing. Second quote: Life is about trying new things not just standing around.
Holy Something Else Batman.....That is awesome....Show some of the one's on the bottom if you can.I 'm sure most of us here would love to see them!!!Great Job!!!!
Here are some close-up pics of the unique slides at the bottom. Also, the last picture shows the difference between the older style "standard" slide - probably from the 50's to the 70's vs. the newer style "standard" slides. The old-style slide is the one on the right with the metal bar attached on both ends. The newer-style slide (on the right) is one-piece construction with fold over tabs.
I was wondering if your older style slides have numbers on the back of them. I have two, a darker one with a "1" and a lighter shaded one with a "2". The numbers would be directly on the reverse side of the eagle. Any idea what these numbers may mean?

The older style slides do have numbers on them - some with a 1 and some with a 2. And no, I don't know what the numbers mean.
Any history on the one on the far right, second off the bottom? I have one like that too.
No, I don't know the history of this "For God and Our Country" neckerchief slide. There were at least a couple of slides with this shape, the other I've seen has the Statue of Liberty on it. I have a history book with photos of scouts from the 1950's and several of the kids are wearing slides shaped like this, but I can't see enough detail to tell which one they are.

Boy Oh Boy, bet your glad for Boy Scout camps. Nice collection. Be nice to donate that collection
to a Boy Scout camp in your area. Might just get you a place to hunt for the rest of your life.
Thanks for the post, Great finds.
