2008 ~ a year to remember!
Well, 2008 is over and it went by fast! I did most of my hunting with my detecting buddies Ron, Richard, and Mike W. Hopefully this year I can go hunting more with Wayne! My goal for 2008 was to dig 100 silver coins ~ I ended with 104 (100 US silver coins and 4 foreign silvers!). Here's a break down:
4 Foreign Silvers (43' Australian Florin, '39 & '61 Canadian 10c's, & '60 Venezualian Bolivar)
86 tokens, other foreign, & medals/medallions
1 Barber Half (1905-S)
3 Walking Lib. Halves ('33-S, '43-S, & '44-S)
1 Franklin Half (1954-D)
4 clad Kennedy halves ('72 to '93)
2 Barber Quarters (1902 & 1910 ~ no mint marks!)
5 Standing Lib. 25c's (1918-S & 4 dateless)
6 Silver Wash. 25c's ('35 to '64)
799 clad 25c's
6 Barber Dimes (1893 to 1913)
34 Merc dimes (1916 to 1945)
42 Silver Rosie dimes ('46 to '64)
1733 clad dimes
1 "V" nickel (1887)
10 Buffalo nickels (1916 to 1935)
19 WAR nickels ('42 to '45)
390 modern nickels
13 Indian Head cents (1880 to 1908-S!)
548 Wheat cents (1910 to 1958)
4968 Copper Memorial cents
I didn't count the zinc cents ~ most too corroded to re-use
____________________________________________
8675 items = $465.29 face value
I had a couple "firsts" ever and 'oldests" ever! My first 1908-S Indian Head cent ~ My first Barber quarter (1902)~ My first pre-1900 "nickel" (1887) ~ first 1945-S "micro" S mint mark ~ first 1949-S Rosie dime (better date) ~ first pre-1900 dime (1893-S) ~ oldest Indian Cent (1880 x2!) ~ oldest Wash 25c (1935 x2!) ~ my first 1942 WAR nickel (x2!).
Thanks for looking!
GOOD LUCK IN 2009!!
Neil

Re: 2008 ~ a year to remember!
Congratulations on a great year of detecting Neil!!! WTG
I enjoy hunting with you and have learned a lot from watching your detecting
skills and asking questions which you take the time to answer. You are methodical
about logging your finds and keep very accurate records and for as much as you
find..... well, that's impressive to me. Hope that '09 will be as successful as this year
and that I can continue to hunt as one of your "partners". Congratulations again....

If Gold is where you find it, I need to look somewhere else.....

Neil,
Congratulations on a SUPER year! I can hardly wait to see what you do next. I hope we can get out soon--between the cold, the rain, and my own bad cold, I am getting cabin fever!
Again, congratulations on an outstanding 2008 and the very best wishes for an even better 2009!
