Don and Dan's 2008 Finds(Best Coin find 1722 Rosa Americana)
2008 was a good year for both myself and my son. My son did excellent on coins this past year and considering his limited amount of time he got out to hunt, he did very well.
Now dear ole Dad had a good year also, although as far as the coins went, I had very decent numbers, but I would have preferred quality over quantity. This year was perhaps my worst year for so many coppers in not exactly pristine shape, like I have found in the past. But the best coin I found this year was the 1722 Rosa Americana Penny. Not too many are ever found and due to their high Zinc content, they usually are in horrible shape, so despite some damage on mine, it is way above average condition for a ground found Rosa..
Relic wise, I am not sure all of what my son found, but I do know the watch key he found, has to be considered his best relic for 2008.
My best relic is by far the 1850 era Daguerreotype Photograph I found that was just about practically destroyed by being exposed to the elements for so many years, but thanks to the Princeton Website I figured out how to restore a all metal photograph, I was very pleased with the results considering what I had to start with.
My second favorite relic was the heavy silver plated large Pineapple button. I learned on research that back in the 18th century the Pineapple was a fruit of royalty. The button is one of my prettier ones.
Overall, a great year for both coins and relics and can only hope 2009 is somewhat similar............

Awesome job on the display and the post! You two had a great year, and many fun hunts together. I always enjoy watching your crusty coins clean up so nicely. My favorite find of the year is Daguerreotype Photograph and watching it materialize. Great job Don!

Don,
The ONLY disheartening thing about this Stellar post is that it means that I need to get off my duff and post my 2008 year in review. :P
These are really exceptional finds. The relics you posted are wonderful (my favorites are the watch keys and the suspender clip). The Rosa is a beauty.
Thank you for taking the time to share these. It has been a good year for you two, and I'm sure that 2009 will bring you more magnificent finds.

Don,an incredibly impressive display of finds! Wow. I've enjoyed all your posts but I have to say your restoration of that daguerreotype photo was one of the most enjoyable posts all year. Thanks for posting a year's end display and HH in "09"

Thanks all for the nice comments, I only wish that 2009 could be a nice of a year for finds! Mark I have been detecting since 1979 or there abouts, maybe a tad earlier on ocassion, but did not start to get more serious until about 1984.
I used Canon's "Photo Record" program for my post setup.

Re: Don and Dan's 2008 Finds
Awesome finds Don. I found a Vidol bottle this year and the funny thing is I found a button that has the same scene as you your avatar. Mine is made of thin brass an has a border and an iron back. It took me 3 weeks to clean it before I could see what was on the button. Cool stuff and good luck this year.
