Don't forget to post your wheat totals for March. And to help me keep my sanity :tard: please post just your March totals. Don't force me to do math, LOL! Of course, anyone who hasn't posted this year at all can list your year-to-date totals.

Re: Post your 2008 WHEAT PENNY totals here!

Well... turns out March 2008 was a big penny month for me.

And unless I pick up something unplanned tomorrow (in which case I will update this number) March provided a total of

683 wheat pennies. (79 of which were pre-1941, first book)

Out of just over 210,000 pennies searched this month. And yes they were all searched by hand for anyone curious about such things.

Add 13 more to my March total as I picked up a late $50 bag today...so 696 total for march (was hoping to break 700 in 1 month)

Re: Post your 2008 WHEAT PENNY totals here!

In March I searched 36,250 pennies and found 207 Wheats. That's a bit of a low find rate for me. I found one new Wheat for my album.

By comparison in March I searched:

8,120 nickels (found 1 Buffalo & 5 War Times)
41,850 dimes (found 17 silver Rosies & 1 Merc)
25,030 quarters (found 5 silver Washingtons)
33,000 halves (found 1 Barber, 9 Walkers, 11 Franklins, 47 90-JFK's, 172 40-JFK's ... including 2 1970D's!, 9 Proofs)

It was a great month for me.

Re: Post your 2008 WHEAT PENNY totals here!

Immy,

Sorry for the delay in posting for the first quarter. It usually takes me forever to sit down and tally the numbers.

January - 0 (no cents searched)
February - 83 wheats
March - 92 wheats

I have already found more wheats this month than I have all year, but I will wait until the end of the month to keep things from getting confusing.

Re: Post your 2008 WHEAT PENNY totals here!

April was not quite as productive as March due mainly to less pennies available from the coin machines.

"Only" 379 wheat pennies (49 of which were pre-1941)

115,000 pennies searched in April.

Of the 142 possible standard wheat penny varieties (including large/small mintmarks), I am now up 95 different in 2008 through April. I also finally added one to my lifetime variety list (1933) which is now up to 115 different varieties.

Re: Post your 2008 WHEAT PENNY totals here!

I'll try to get my count of wheaties this week and post....

But I had to say, yesterday I arrived at work and one of my co-workers says to me "Got 35 cents?" I said, "I have to buy something to get cash back." (which I did have to make a purchase anyway)...she said, "Then do it!" LOL

So, I made my purchase...she gave me change back minus the 35 cents then hands me a bag of pennies. She said a lady came in the day before (I was off) and wanted to cash in these 35 pennies. Jen looked at them and saw they were all wheaties!!! Well, when Jen gave me the bag....we looked through it....30 of the 35 were wheaties!!!

Got home...one was a 1918....it is very very worn. Then I got two 1920's and 1921. One of the 1920's was an "S" mint mark. Got several 30's and alot of 40's and several 50's. One of the 40's was a 1947 S...it was so clean and the detail was really good on it. It actually looked almost brand new!!! It wasn't, but compared to other wheaties that old, this was still the color of a new penny.

I'm so excited. This is my third 1918 (the worse looking one though). I think I only have two other pennies from the 20's and a few of the 30's...but have alot of 40's and 50's.

I need to stop at the coin shop tomorrow to get more penny holders so I can add these to my collection. I love it when folks at work help me find old coins!!! I work with a great bunch!!!

Thanks for reading and when I get my count complete and the rest of my wheaties in their holders....I'll post a pic and my count!!
Happy Hunting,
Annmarie

It might suck for variety, but apparently the volume of wheaties is better as I have searched almost 500,000 pennies this year and have only a few more wheat pennies and 0 IHC.

I remember those days well, or not so well as the case may be. From 1976-85 I collected in RI and S-mints were the toughest to find. Completing a roll of 1970-S nickels was a major feat! Now it's the opposite, still no 2008-P penny yet...
