2009-A Year in Retrospect hunting CW Relics
Dman and I usually hit the Tennessee woods and fields hard from January through mid April when we can to recover CW Relics. In 2009, Dman's store employee was very sick during this entire period and the only time we could get away was when he closed the store. I have attached pics of some of my recoveries for 2009. The CW Saddle Shield from a U.S. CW Camp was my best find this past year. I ended the year with 116 relics not counting button backs, campfire lead, non CW period coins, or flat buttons unless from a CSA site.
I (and Dman) was fortunate to receive some good publicity:
Western and Eastern Treasures Magazine:
April 2009-Tennessee State CW Veteran's Pin selected as a Best Find of 2009 and pictured in issue.
May 2009-My article "Tennessee Relic Hunting" published in that issue.
August 2009-Dman and I co-wrote an article "Five Steps to Finding More Civil War Relics published in that issue.
December 2009-My article "Metal Detector Myths-Fact or Fiction" came out in January 2010 issue.
North South Trader's Civil War Magazine
Vol. 34 #1-Tennessee Veteran's Pin pictured in "Recent Field Recoveries".
This was not my best year detecting but relics are not that plentiful anymore and it takes a lot of thinking and searching to find them. My total relic count from July 2006 through 12-31-2009 is 583 using the criteria listed above. Here's hoping 2010 is your best year ever!!!

Thanks Kyle, you and the Colonial Gang have had an exceptional year also. Best to you and the gang in 2010. Maybe 20 LCs?

You had a pretty good year by the looks of your finds. That saddle shield is awesome.
Thanks again for all the help you gave me in 2009 and for that great cannonball holder. You are a tough act to follow Q.

P.S. Take it easy on Dman this year, he's still learning the ropes.
He's a professional photographer and professional relic hunter now. Congrats on your article in the August issue of W & E Treasures. It's going to be difficult to improve on your great finds from last year. HH.

Thanks to you for being my witness regarding these finds-LOL. Seriously, if you had not become interested in CW Relic hunting 3 or so years ago, I probably would not have 5 or more additional display boxes of relics (including the best finds) because I would simply not have gone as much. It has been fun and rewarding to see you dig the great relics that you have recovered including that Virginia Button. When the ground thaws, we will hit it again.
