Relic Hunting
I started hunting Civil War relics back in the early 70's and was an avid hunter for several years until job and kids became priority. I retired a few years ago, but didn't realize just how much I enjoyed and missed relic hunting until last year. 2011 was the first year my son (now a grown man) and I have hunted seriously in over 20 years. I just thought I'd found alot in the past until I compared it to what we found last year. Last year's finds alone nearly equaled what I had found in at least 10 years of hunting. I'm very proud of what we found in 2011 and thought I would share with everyone. The most heart stopping moment/find was the Tennesse thin style C.S.A. buckle. I never dreamed I would find another Confederate buckle in my life (the first one was a cast C.S. oval I traded for a new metal detector in the 80's)! When I pulled it out of the hole, all I saw was the back and three hooks. In my excitement I didn't even turn it over, I just held it out to my son and yelled, "I think it's a buckle!" Everything from that site (what we think was a small Confederate Cavalry camp) are in the first two pictures, just awesome. Everything else has come from sites dotted along a stretch of road used during the war. We plan to return to all these sites in 2012 and we've gained permission for several new sites too. I'll try to keep everyone posted, as we hope 2012 is as impressive as 2011 was. Thanks so much for looking!
