Favorite find of 2014. Lets all recap

My favorite would be the day I dug this 1661 Hungarian hammered silver coin and the 1708 cut piece from a Spanish 2 reale.

That's funny because when I found it it was still covered with dirt when I walked over to show my buddy. When I brushed the dirt off I had it oriented so that it read 1991. We both looked at each other and said 1991 That confusion lasted for about a second

This was actually a VERY hard post to answer! I liked everything I was blessed to find -

This may sound somewhat stupid; BUT; (that's never stopped me before)



This ugly, barely legible, scratched, I mean it even has an ugly Matron Head on it, this funky Large Cent,
Is the FIRST coin I found pre-1900's. I couldn't believe it when I found it. I just sat there, bursting inside and afraid to grin outside.
I was with a buddy who congratulated me for the find and cussed me at the same time.
I carried that ugly/beautiful coin around in my pocket for a month before I could put it in the coin book. It's shiny partially and almost legible because I did
what you're not supposed to do. I held it in my hand and slid it around my fingers like a little kid 50 years ago with a new nickle.
I imagined who had it last? Who had it before them? What it bought and how upset were they to lose it? Did they even look for it?
Now, I had it, One Hundred and Ninety Seven years later.

I still get that same feeling about every old thing I find.



And this simple lonely cufflink. Because it's not a coin. It represents every artifact I found that is not a coin. It's a fact of life. It had a job to do, and it did it until it broke
and fell away from it's master's cuff to be found in the dirt by another relic. me.

That would be my oldest silver an 1816 half reale and my first silver dollar an 1889 0 Morgan. Non-coin would be a silver pocket watch.All found in 2014. Much joy!

Wow, nice scores. Is there a mintmark on the 1889? Several months ago I found an 1889S dime. Only around a million minted.

Thanks! I found that seated and 3 barbers in a 5 foot radius in the spring about 8 inches+
No mint mark unfortunately

I'm not much for Relic's or Coins unless they are Gold but those are some Amazing finds which all got my attention. Great Work, Love the Treasures..

Seems like anytime I dig gold the one at that moment until I find the next is my favorite, but out of the 34 Gold's this year the two that stand out the most.... 31.6 gram 10k and the 2 Carat Platinum which is 12 grams

now that's a lot of gold!, im not patient enough for beach hunts, although my machine isn't good near salt water.

Im like you, when I make a new gold find, I sit it on my desk and pick it up and look at it often...then Im waiting for my next fix.
