My best 2017 finds...8 Reales tops the list

My 6th year of detecting was good...and bad. Despite detecting almost every weekend, my totals for silver coins and coppers were WAY off from previous years. Yet, on the bright side I managed to find two of my greatest coin finds ever...an 1821 Capped Bust Dime (my first Capped Bust coin and oldest US silver) and an 1806 Spanish 8 Reales (only my second Spanish coin and my first "silver dollar" sized coin). Some of my other favorite finds this year included 3 complete colonial shoe/knee buckles, a well worn silver Navy ring, a skeleton key and silver ring spill, and a coin silver pocket watch. Thanks for looking and best of luck and HH to everyone in the New Year!

Congrats on the 2017 season finds. Your 2 bucket listers, the 8 reales & Capped Bust Dime would be major finds for me. The Skeleton Key is sweet.
If your silver finds were off because you hit some of the same sites that you hit in previous years, that means that you did a good job on previous searches.

Notching off Bucket List finds is of major importance to me personally. I would prefer to find old stuff above the "newer" silver coins. Even an old brass buckle, suspender clip, or flat button brings more satisfaction to me than a silver Merc dime or Washington quarter. Although your finds may lack in quantity the few fantastic keepers you did score would sustain me personally and validate my efforts in finding the stuff I am actually searching for. I can hit sidewalk strips or private lawns with the best of them and snatch up silver any day I choose. Not knocking those that do this BTW. I prefer to get out in the bush and fields in search of the older history. The finds are fewer and farther between but, when I do find them they tend to get me hooping, hollering, and dancing like a kid. I love that!;D Finding that 8 reale coin would have gotten a cartwheel out of me and one of the most obnoxious HAPPY DANCES in ALL of metal detecting HISTORY! LOL! Well done on a successful season my friend.:icon_salut:

If you can't obtain the quantity kill it quality and your season was one of those. Great looking silver, and there's always something beautiful about that green patina as the key has that puts the warmth in the heart and a smile on the lips. Congrats, and may your 2018 be grand.
