I had a wonderful time digging Civil War relics in 2017... and I love the fact that most of the better finds came from my home state of North Carolina. All of the relics pictured (except two displays of bullets) were dug in NC.
I'm very excited about devoting a little more time to digging in 2018, there is still a lot good stuff out there.

I wish everyone good health and great success in the coming year. --JB

Really awesome CW relics! I'm in NC 6-8 times per year, I really need to leave the beach and try to find some cool pieces of history like you are displaying here. Congrats!

Thanks Ddf, I'm picking the buttons for 2017. I have a hard time finding buttons normally, especially Confederate....all of the buttons and the plate came from a very small section of a "hunted out" site. --JB

Congratulations for having a great year! Is the broken shield-shaped buckle Civil War related? I dug one just like it and was wondering what it was.

I'm pretty sure it's pre CW....I think I found an example in a book right after I found it, I need to look again. The silver clog fastener is certainly colonial and was found the same day....the CW camp was right on top of an old home site.
I hope your buckle wasn't broken.--JB

I have seen those shield buckles found on circa 1800 sites here in PA.

Thanks Steve, I saw where Tommy G. had posted a similar buckle in "What Is It" back in Dec. 2015....you are right on, "late 1700s early 1800s".

Thanks, I normally hunt in central NC, but I know there are some great spots in eastern NC. I've checked out your 2017 finds from PA. and based on the super relics you are finding up there, you may need those beach days in NC just to relax.

I found the photo of the shield buckle in Howard Crouch's book "Civil War Artifacts", so maybe they are CW.... I hope you are digging some good relics down in SC.
