Any rockhounds in the North Alabama area? I'm in Scottsboro

Just curious if their were any rockhounds or gem hunters or gold panners around me. I travel to Tennessee, NC and Georgia as often as I can to hunt. Would love to network with others. Haven't bought a detector yet but it looks like something I'd get into.

i have a detector, I've always wanted to toy around with some gold panning........my stepdad was told by a jewelry store owner that a creek near my house was producing some gold and that from the signs there is a big vein up creek somewhere....if you want a newbie to go sometime let me know.
