just saw a commercial that they are going to start deliveries on Sunday and also to send text when your package is out for delivery, I don't see this lasting or making it very far
Yup, their just going to spend their way deeper into the hole. If this was a good idea FedEx and UPS would already be doing this. Now junk mail comes Seven days a week...yeah!

The govt involved...nope it will be spread the wealth around in the form of higher rates for all, and us taxpayers will have yo make up a huge shortfall in cash cause they'll be even less relevant in the real world...

It was only about a year or so ago they were going to cease Saturday delivery. Congress wouldn't let them.

My understanding it is only for packages from Amazon & only in certain areas so I'm guessing
Amazon or in reality it's customers are footing the bill

at one time it was great.
Back when people respected their Jobs & went by the inscription
on the General Post Office in New York City "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom
of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

now they are all Newman's

at least around here if it Snows or rains a little too hard, they go home :(

also Junk mail has Quadrupled, & they cut their carriers down from 5 to 2

I know that's what they say is the problem Ben, but how is another day of delivery going to help them spend less money?

The article has part of it right. Another part is congress sets rates. Nobody wants to see the rates go up but the truth is it's hard to run a business when rates are lower than the competition. Fedex takes in items, has USPS move them across country, & then handles the final delivery themselves. If they could ship it cheaper themselves they would.

I am not here to argue against anyone's personal fiscal belief system. All I am saying is, spending less money is not always the "solution". On paper it will always look like the right move but in reality, the problem is not that they are spending too much money.

well I pay all my bills once a month. I used to buy 8 Stamps every month.
As stamp prices rose each year I started paying bills online.
I now have down to only needing a stamp once every 3 months to pay my water bill which I can't pay online.
One more Stamp increase in January may convince me to walk across the street
and pay it in person :laughing7: :tongue3:

in other words increasing rates doesn't work either :unhappysmiley:

Beware though their next thing to try may be a
mandatory monthly fee for mail delivery.

I know some already pay with PO boxes

of course I already help out. I turn down the Save Paper option on my Bills
I still get hard copies mailed to me. I just don't open them

Jeff,

There is no doubt that progress in technologies and efficiencies have hurt the USPS. However, there is also a much greater demand for shipping networks with the increase of direct market sales (manufacturer to consumer) which bypasses the middleman. So while USPS loses out to online correspondence and bill pay, they are picking up the slack by being a shipping partner for places like ebay, amazon, etc.

yes this is Very True.

More & More people are doing their XMas shopping online
and no matter what, they do get a good % of that business

I understand that. But I really don't think this will result in more revenue...

My mail carrier is great! We had almost 2 feet of snow
and she was maybe 10 Minutes late. She is an old ex marine and tough as shoe leather. I guess I'm lucky.
