My Latest Acquisitions
Here are some pieces I picked up off a local guy. He had gotten a collection in trade for some coins and wasn't really interested in the artifacts, so he decided to sell them. I went to his coin shop and looked through the collection, which I will say was very impressive. He had quite a few really nice large Axes, a ton of points, a couple of Pipes, and lots of odds and ends. I looked through most of it and decided on these pieces and he gave me a really good price so I couldn't pass them up.
The black Blade is just a hair over 4 inches long, very thin, and is made from Coshocton Flint. There is no grinding whatsoever on the base, so my guess is a Late Archaic/Early Woodland piece. It is a superb artifact though, no matter what culture it's from.
The middle point in the tray is a Dovetail. It has heavy grinding on the base, but I'm not sure of the flint type.
The two points on the left and right at the top of the tray are both classic Pentagonals. The left point is made of Zaleski Flint and the right looks to be Kanawha Flint.
The bottom left point is a Palmer Point and is made from Coshocton Flint.
The bottom right is a small Lost Lake with very heavy grinding on the base and nice beveling. I'm not sure of this flint type either.
The small Necklace or Bracelet has 22 beads on it and was the best deal by far at only $25.
I scoped all of these pieces with my small hand held scope and am confident every piece is good as was all the other pieces he had. They were all no brainers and are all from my local area.

Thanks Molly. I'm really leary about buying, but these were no brainers and I got such a good deal I couldn't pass them up. He's got quite a few more pieces and I may try to get a few more from him.

Interesting bracelet...Several style of beads are there. Do you think it is an assembled piece from isolated finds or found intact? I would guess that it is assembled. The center piece has a grooved design, is it engraved in a chevron pattern? Nothing like that in my area, although the cultures are related. Good finds are where you find them!!!!!! Nice stuff.

Rege, I'm sure it is just assembled isolated finds. You could tell from looking at the collection that the man was a surface hunter since some of the pieces would have dirt on one side where it had layed in the ground while the other side had been washed clean by the rain.

Looks like you picked some honeys! That Zaleski point stands out to me. I have lots of stuff made from Zaleski flint and it just stands out from all other material IMO. Thanks for sharing
