2008 in review.

It was a fairly productive year here in Western Indiana. We had our share of record rain fall and flooding which made for some excellent hunting. I found many common relics and a few new favorites. I have the next seven days off so hopefully I can start out 2009 with a good hunt. I was stranded in Pennsylvania for New Years Eve so I was cheated out of my final hunt for the year. Now, in no particular order, on to the relics.


I took this picture outside Gorham, New Hampshire last week. I think this is Mount Washington. Growing
up in the cornbelt i'm just in awe at the scenery when I travel to the north east. Now to the relics.


A decent thebes.


An adena made of some nice translucent burlington.


Here is a rare point for this area. Out of the four complete fox valley points i've found this one is by far the
best.


Here is a nice little celt out of hardstone.



I found these two thebes in the same hunt back in early June. I hunted the entire site the evening before and returned the next day after 6 inches of rain and found these. The bigger point was washed out of the field into a grass waterway.


Although it's broken this is a favorite piece for this year. I found the larger piece over the winter and found the impact fractured piece this spring. When I found the smaller piece I was sure it fit. Sure enough it did.

These two pieces are off of a new site.  The grooved adz is a new favorite since they are very uncommon in this area.


A clunker axe made of some unusual material.



These two pieces are off of a new site.  I found the poll section to the axe the same day as the banner.  I found the center section a month or so later.  Hopefully the bit is somewhere close.



This piece made my day.

I was fortunate to piece this one back together after 10 years. I found the base in the late 90's and the tip in September.

These pieces I acquired from my good friend Floyd who sadly took his own life just two days before Christmas. It's tough to watch a strong and fit person succumb to cancer and eventually depression. There are many survivors who have recovered from much worse. I feel like he could have made a full recovery. I'll miss our conversations and his stories. But what's done is done and all I can do now is take care of the relics he entrusted to me. Good luck in 2009 everyone.
