    Question about Mounds?

When I was a kid living in Michigan back in the 50's, my Dad and I would travel all over the state trout fishing. I remember one time we were fishing this stream and I came upon this large mound of dirt right in the middle of the woods. It was all covered with thick sod and wild flowers. I remember it struck me as odd. It didn't fit the landscape. It was about 5 to 6 foot high and maybe 12 feet long and 8 feet wide.

Back then I had never even heard of an Indian mound so I just left and said nothing.

Could this have been an Indian mound? Or, what was it?

Today I don't think I could even find it. I was young then and we did so much traveling.

    Re: Question about Mounds?

Here is South Alabam that is exactly what Indian mounds look like. Most are gone but I do know of some on private property and a huge one off the Tensaw river that was "rediscovered" about 15 yrs ago by the University of South Alabama. Those of us who have grown up fishing that area knew about it from old timers who told us ghost stories.

I never understood how Indians lived there as the yellow flies were terrible and hungry!
