Not all arrowheads are stone!

Got this while metal detecting a week ago, thought maybe some of you point hunters would appreciate this copper arrowhead, its a 3 inch conical point dated 3000 years old. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did finding it!

That's a great find. I see that you are from Wisconsin. If that where this was found, I would even push the age back to being older than 3,000. It looks like the old copper complex point, and I think those date back to Archaic periods. Most Old copper complex points come from around the upper great lakes regions, Michigan, Wisconsin. Great find and congrats. John.. P.s I think you can do a search on Old copper complex and maybe find out a little more.

All I know is that is one heck of a neat point. The indians were pretty good at hammering out that raw material what ever it was. Thank you for showing us.

I believe you are correct on the dating of this point FFofMo..... I just moved here to the northern most part of Wisconsin and I guess this is a item that I can expect to find along with the stone arrowheads. I have never been a hunter or collector of this kinda thing, but now after this find I think I'll be doing alot more looking ....Slipperyjack47

From what I have learned so far is that this copper is foound very near the surface and they would use large stone hammers to pound it into the shapes desired, very cool stuff! I can hardly wait to find more. Thanks TnMountains!

Very nice find. Thanks for sharing it with us. It hurts to admit it but I have found 2 of those over the last 33 years and didn't know what they were and I threw them away. Every time I see one of these posted on here I get a sick feeling because I just assumed they were old tent stakes or something like that. I bet that I won't make that mistake again if I ever find another one.
