    Blade/material question??

Last week my father & I was metal detecting a 250 acre area of private ground that had recently been logged. The many log roads in the area made for some great detecting/surface hunting.. As we ventured along, we came to a small opening along the log road that had been cleared of timber & the top soil had been pushed to the edges of the opening.. We hunted shortly & discovered the first three blades pictured below. Two of these blades was lying right next to each other & the other was found only a few feet away.
Anyhow, it has rained 3 times here since then, so I returned to the site this morning & between showers found five more blades (+ 2 broken) lying very near the first finds.

I observed the way the area had been cleaned off & noticed the push trail that was left by the heavy equipment can still be seen. I also noticed that all the blades found, have been found in this single trail..
FWIW, other than the blades, nothing else has been found here, so, I assume there must be a cache some where in the 150 foot trail left by the heavy equipment.

Anyhow, it was a short outing.! the open area is small & can be hunted in less than an hour + it rained practically the whole time I was there..

I have a few questions for you advanced collectors/ knappers..
Can anyone say what type of blades these are? Also, what type of flint was used to make these blades?
Any help would be appreciated.. Also, do you think I should report this? If so, to who??
The first pic is much better than the second.! It was taken with a digital cammera, where the other pic is scanned. I can do better pics if needed..

sounds like you found a cache, congrats. I'm not sure about the material, the black glossy flint looks similar to Knox. How big is the largest one? they look like Hopewell preforms imo.

No dont report it to anyone but us,lol. If you have permission then you are probably ok .Keep hunting it was a cache of preforms. Lots of times they would make a preform where they collected the material before transporting it.This way they knew they were hauling back a good form from the rock.
Great find keep them together always. All probably made by the same guy.
    Way to go.

So far 2- 15/16".. I was thinking due to the type of chipping (core and blade technology) they could be much older.. But the same type of "chipping" was used in the middle woodland times as well, so you maybe right.. I did find a broken snyder point a 1/4 mile from the cache site, this doesn't really prove anything but it is a clue.. Im going back to the site tommorrow afternoon.. I will post some pics if I find anything. LOL,Hope it rains hard tonight..

    Thanks,Silver Eagle
