    Need Some Opinions!!!

We found these while searching for arrowheads. The rounded one is wide on one end and a little narrower at the other end.The middle has notched type grooves on the one side.It is a little over 6" long.It is very smooth. The second rock has very distinct grooves on both sides and totally flat on one side.Could these possilble be tools? I tried to resize the pics but unfortunately I dont know how.Maybe someone could tell me how to do that too.

Welcome to T-Net. I have never seen anything like that before. It looks like a laminated guns stock material...I know its not .Beautiful material. Lets see what some of these knowledgable folks say.
    Good luck.

Is the first piece polished, any pecking evident? looks like a possible preform, pretty piece of material. banded slate?

    Re: Need Some Opinions!!!

The first peice is not polished although it is very smooth. It is fairly heavy and aside from the notch like center there are no other nicks or scrapes on it.We showed it to several people who collect arrowheads and they also said they never saw anything like it before. We thought it could of been some type of hammer but we really have no idea.Thank you for your opinions!

That is a piece of banded slate and from the shape of it, it could very well be a preform for one of these, a Geniculate Bannerstone.

    Re: Need Some Opinions!!!

Thank you for the information. We never heard of banded slate.I do not know what you mean by "polished" or "pecking".My husband and I have just started searching the fields this spring so we are very new to this.It is a very interesting hobby. We have found some fascinating rocks and some points. This one had us completely stumped.Thank you again! Now we have a place to start the research on this piece.

Material is right but it doesn't look to have been worked at all.
