my first point, ever...and it's a quiz. Who can answer correctly?

Oh, I've found a few since, but this was my very first.

I looked down one day, on a walk, and it was staring right at me. It is perfect and has no imperfections or impact damage. It is about 2" in length and 3/8" thick

Just for fun, lets see if any of the experts here can tell us where it came from and a little history. Tribe, general location, age, etc. If you need more pics, I will provide. Let me know.

I'd guess Texas and an Palmillas, Archaic dart. Base doesn't look wide enough for LaJita. Palmillas used to be called "Penny" points, due to their basal configuration. There is no "tribe". Remember, you're dealing with pre-history here, not history.

Sorry folks, stepped out for a bit.

TnMountain, you hit it right when you stated I should be learning as well. So, with my tail tucked, I did a little reading. I found my questions weren't quite fair. This was purely unintentional.

For example I've learned arrow points that are quite similar to the Perdiz type in shape, size and chipping occur in California, Spain, and Japan. While they fit the physical description of Perdiz rather well, they don't fit the geographical and temporal position of Perdiz.
Continuity in distribution of a type is the principal criterion for demonstrating that it is a valid cultural entity.

Anyway with that said, and what you had to go on greg-rocks....you appear to be closest as it was found in East Texas and I believe Caddo (Natchitoches) to be correct.

Well, here we go with an educational post. I'm tired as hell and will try to keep it as succinct as possible, while addressing alot of the issues in this thread.

You mentioned it was found in east Texas, which reaffirms everything I said in my previous post. Palmillas.

Now, for the Perdiz. Perdiz are a small Texas arrow point, what you are showing looks to be a dart point or knife. Perdiz do not resemble the point you found. They are small, well barbed and have a long contracting stem. However, as you mentioned, they can greatly resemble neolithic points found elsewhere.

As for Darl, they are not found in east Texas. They are found generally in central Texas and westward. They aren't Caddo, or found in the same areas. They are an Archaic point and come in a few different configurations (from parallel to expanding stem).

Greg did mention Palmillas in his post and I wholeheartedly agree with that. Nice job. Can someone email me an aspirin?

Hey Bravowhiskey thank you for a fun thread. Dont worry I am wrong all the time and it would not be much fun on here if we thought we knew everything all the time . My brilliant investigation of that particular point began with me thinking you were a child in Northern Indiana(from a previous post) therefore it just had to be a Bakers creek,LOL. They are in Indiana right??
