It's a gorget of some sort. Almost looks like a birdstone that's been broken and salvaged by the maker into a gorget. Very unique..........

Definitely a Humped Backed Gorget and a very nice one at that. I believe they are one of the rarest types you can find.

So there you go , Corrupted it appers it IS a Gorget , good find by your uncle , funny thing is I was going to say it looks like what they call a Humped back Gorget ,.. .not that I really know ,but I do remember seeing some here before ? Anyway seem's the I.D. been nailed down for you here [in a few hr's at that !!] as a Humped Back/Humped Gorget maybe ass. with the Glacial Kame Culture [?]. Told ya ,.. there good down here ,.. maybe a wee bit over the top some , but all very helpfull

I just did some independant research and I have to say that this is quite an exciting object. There is one price that lists it at $1600, it is in much better shape but WOW that is cool

What I found most interesting is the possible age. From Wikipedia:

The Glacial Kame Culture were Native Americans known as the Archaic peoples that occupied Southern Ontario, Michigan, Ohio and Indiana from around 8000 BC to 1000 BC. They got their name from their practice of interment of their dead on top of hills of glacial gravel. Burial sites included ornaments of copper and marine shells. Extensive trade networks existed at this time.

Other regional cultures include the Maple Creek Culture of southwestern Ohio, Red Ocher Culture and Old Copper Culture of Wisconsin.

For a time, it was thought that the Glacial Kame Culture did not produce ceramics, but this understanding was disproven by the discovery of primitive pottery at the Zimmerman Site near Roundhead, Ohio.

Thank you everyone with your help on this, my Aunt is gonna be quite excited to hear this..too bad my Uncle passed a couple of years ago I know he would be interested in this. This is going into my safe till I get it back to her. LOL!

Nice gorget!!!!!!!! You can call it a humped gorget or a nipple gorget. They are closely related to the spineback gorgets of the Glacial Kame culture. There was an extremely strong Glacial Kame presence in Canada and many of this type of artifact are found in those parts. If you want to talk cash, I would appraise it in the $300-$500 range. It is a little rough to command the big bucks, but it is a super, super find.
