Material I.D. Help -- Kentucky

There is a finely grained tan-buff colored quartzite that's found in (maybe comes
from ?) Kentucky I'd greatly appreciate somebody familiar with that area's I.D. of.

It's in big enough pieces that 3.5: blades can be struck from them, but also
shows up as patches in a dull white but good quality bone white chert.

Problem is not willingness, friends. It's technological incompetence. Got a camera and a brand new Mac computer a few months ago, and am floundering around trying to get programs it comes with like the photo program up and running.

One problem is I didn't grow up with technology the way many of you guys did, so navigating it is unfamiliar territory. Another is I'm pretty hard of hearing, so help over the phone contact is difficult. A third is that after 20 years of working 42.5 a week in a state prison, time off is R&R time -- not get busy and figure complicated stuff out time.

If we still had the last of the Microsoft ones, I could at least post scans of them. But we don't. Because replacing them every year or so got old beyond endurance.

If it gets to where you truly can't stand waiting, nominate somebody, and I'll send him a box of stuff to photograph & post images of.

So in the mean time, no info ?

Uniface, is this the material you are referring to? If so, that is Hixton Quartz and is native to Wisconsin.

Thank you for the idea, Dorkfish. But no -- it isn't Hixton. This is much finer-grained, and has no gloss to it at all. I have a red Hixton end-sidescraper that's one of my favorite relics.

Sounds like you're describing Brassfield, only it's pretty grainy, several grades of it though. color sounds about right. Does it look anything similar to this material, it's from Ohio county, Ky?

I am going to help you out. I made the glorious leap to a mac a couple years ago. I had to learn i photo and all that stuff. To be honest now its even easier than micro soft. I will get back with you and we will get your camera into i photo then into finder and you can post in a second. We all have appreciated your advice and help and maybe as a collective we can return the favor. Remember to think outside the clovis culture and age is no excuse,,lol. I crack myself up sometimes. Will check in later when I get in.

Many Thanks, TnMountains. Have three folders started, but when i click on them nothing happens. The quick start shows images getting dragged into a folder icon, but I can't find the folder icon to put images in.
