    My Latest Project

I don't know if any of you remember the Turtle and the Buffalo that I carved out of Pipestone last year, but now I am working on a Frog. I have it pretty much done other than a few finishing touches on the legs and I'll post more pictures of it later after I get it completely finished.

Nice work. You must have a lot of patience.

Nice Steve. I can't stand it anymore. If that piece or the turtle are for sale quote me a price. I've had a small collection of frogs and turtles since I was 6. Are you going to Ft. Mitchell in a couple weeks?

Nice work! Are you carving by hand tool or dremmel?
I got into carving local rock as an offshoot of looking for points. I kept spotting so much cool stone to pick up, and decided to play with it. I'll have to take a few pics.

    Re: My Latest Project

    Thanks guys.

Adam, I doubt I would ever sell any of them, but I am still going to make that Pipe for you. I don't know if I'm going to Ft Mitchell or not. I think it's the same weekend as my wifes high school reunion and I would never hear the end of it if I blew that off for a show.

Mike, I use a Dremmel to do these. I tried doing it by hand and it just takes to long to make any progress, but it did give me a new found respect for what the Indians had to go through to carve theirs. I am amazed at what they could accomplish just using another rock to carve their Effigies and Pipes out of this stone.

    Dorkfish hello,

How long did you hold the stone till you saw
the frog in it? I do some carving of stuff. I like
green banded slate and chalk rock I find. Artist
    for sure you are.

    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Steve,

I guess I would have figured all pipestone to be a soft material (like catlinite), neat stuff.
