A Bit More on the Giants

Several of the above accounts emphasize the statue of the Allegewi, even calling them giants. Accounts of giants even eight feet tall being dug up by Ohio farmers abound, but evidence is scanty. There is evidence that the mound-builders may have been unusually tall, as Don Dragoo relates in Mounds for the Dead.

Two outstanding traits have been noted repeatedly for [the Adena]. One is the protruding and massive chin often with prominent bilateral protrusions. The second trait is the large size of many of the males and some of the females. A male of six feet was common and some individuals approaching seven feet in height have been found … Not only were these Adena people tall, but also the massiveness of the bones indicates powerfully built individuals. The head was generally big with a large cranial capacity.

The site includes more neat stuff than this.

Re: A Bit More on the Giants

I'd like to see some of the artifacts these guys would carry into battle. 11 feet..unreal!

    "1884- Kanawha County, West Virginia

A 7 foot 6in. skeleton in a stone structure likened to a temple chamber. Inside the Criel Mound of South Charleston was discovered

    1856 Wheeling, West Virginia
A human skeleton was discovered by labourers while ploughing a vineyard measuring almost 11 feet tall.

    1875 West Virginia, Rivesville:
Workmen constructing a bridge near the mouth of Paw Paw Creek uncovered three giant skeletons with strands of reddish hair clinging to the skulls. The skeletons had supported people approximately 8 feet tall.

    1882 West Virginia, Brewersville:

The remains of a giant human in a sitting position with artifacts of stone and flint were discovered near White Day Creek. "

Somewhere I read where natives coexisted with these giants , I'll try and dig that up.
