How to sell a very rare Clovis!!

A friend of a friend has found a clovis point that is said to be made out of asian material (I think grey in color) but it was found in Oklahoma. Local experts say this is a very rare type.

This owner is said to be very nervous and unsure on how to go about selling it.
He has been negotiating with 2 people but he would like to gain more attention than just 2 people and be certain he won't be ripped off. The last offer I heard was 14K for this un-papered point.

14k for a clovis is a bit unusual I think. Have seen a few folsoms that might make that.

The Clovis, if it is large and well made enough could likely fetch that kind of money with no problem.

I know a guy who sold one for 6 or 7 thousand that had been broke in half and glued back together. The guy who bought it said if it were whole he would have put its value at 14000 +.

Old Barn Auction house. Pieces go for big money there. This is were I 'll be selling my collection if I decide to do so. You could probably get that amount easy as long as your reasonably sure it is real.

I'll throw this out there. I have a Rock Buddy who offered a guy 50,000 bucks for a Clovis point in Fayetteville N.C. The point is speckled Rhyolite and is 14" long and over 3" in width. Man would not sell.

For the record, being offered a price means absolutely nothing. Many times people will offer exaggerated amounts simply because they know the buyer won't take it. I've seen it happen too many times.

14K for a high end clovis isn't unheard of, but I'd imagine it's got to be 5"+ and in perfect condition. There are some high end collectors out there, contact one of the large dealers and work out a comission deal.

I'd actually avoid pushing the Asian material thing (I don't know any collectors that would be able to identify Asian flint vs any of the thousands of US varieties.)

It's difficult to say exactly on the details because this 2nd hand info I'm getting from my friend, he's no expert in artifacts.

From what I'm hearing the material is said to come from Asia and is rumored to be an indication of the first material and people from the crossing of the Bering Strait.

I'll keep asking to get more details and Pictures and pass it on as I get them.

If that is true about the size that would make it the largest Clovis found in the United States. The Rutz Clovis is the largest to date at 9-3/4" then the East Wenatchee Clovis's @ 9-1/8" and then the Fenn Clovis's. He should have it documented and published... jmo .....................................and yes all i have been a little busy and have not been on in a while......I'll be back..............happy hunting all .............GTP

Some folks I know are real secretive about their stuff. There are some things hidden away that museums could only dream of. I'm sure it's true everywhere. Folks don't trust government. After my Bud offered him 50,000 the guy told my Bud a man offered him a farm for it.

You probably won't be able to, but it would be cool if you could get us a pic just to look at. Asian material. I'm from Oklahoma too, at least since the government moved us here. We don't really subscribe to the belief that one day the water was low and we decided to wade across and see if the fishing was better over there. IF that did happen, I could conceive of the idea that an object could be passed down from generation to generation. Or it could be more evidence of visitors before Columbus. Let us know what comes out with the point.
