    A true heartbreaker

I often hear people call any broken point a "heartbreaker". To me a "heartbreaker" is a broken artifacts that otherwise would have been an incredible, stunning piece. I found this decatur in Northern KY a few years ago while walking a tobacco field. It is broken along a quartz inclusion. I have since (this spring actually) found another broken hornstone decatur but, it would not have been nearly as nice.

    Very nice

I've said this on here b4 but I think broken 1s are more interesting then whole 1s, you have to wonder what they might have been shot at & how they broke?

Notice that it's been used after the break as an ad hoc endscraper. The little micro-nibbles out of the edge tell the tale.

Thanks for the comments. I do not think it was ever used as an end scraper. It is just a clean snap. I wish......it would feel a lot more complete!

Greg, for sure. Have you ever come across a Decatur? I think they are a pretty rare type for sure.

i was looking through sum boxes of artifacts trying to find those broken decaturs and ran acrossed this point.I am not sure if this is a decatur but i think it could be,if so it has had the flared out shoulders sharpened off and it isnt real large, but it does have the fractured base.let me know what you think chuck?I still havent found those brokes, way too many boxes to go through.kind of nice to be able to sit at home and go hunting.lol.
